The challenge is great for FC Sion, which has not won in the Rhine city since June 7, 2015 in… Swiss Cup. That day, the Sédunois lifted the trophy for the 13th time after a match won 3-0.
This season, the two teams have already faced each other once at Tourbillon and the meeting resulted in a draw (1-1). Since then, the Basel have become comfortable in the Super League and are at the top of the standings, one point ahead of Lugano and Servette. FC Sion regained victory on the pitch in Winterthur (3-1) on Sunday and therefore approaches this round of 16 with confidence, even if a success against Xherdan Shaqiri and his teammates would constitute a great achievement.
Yverdon – Lugano, Act III
Yverdon returns to Lugano for the third time in a month and a half. Winner 2-0 at home against the Ticino at the end of October, the Nord-Vaudois then lost at the beginning of November at Cornaredo (2-0).
Defeated by Lucerne on their lawn on Saturday (1-0), Alessandro Mangiarratti’s men are struggling in the championship. But they could take advantage of the fatigue of the Luganais, who played Thursday in the Conference League and Sunday in Geneva, where they suffered the law of Servette (3-0).
The other round of 16 scheduled for Wednesday will pit Young Boys against Schaffhausen.
