PSG in the first hat during the draw

PSG will appear in the first hat in the draw for the Club World Cup, scheduled for Thursday in Miami, FIFA said on Tuesday. The only French club in this 32-team competition organized from June 15 to July 14, 2025 in the United States, PSG rubs shoulders in hat 1 (“pot” in Fifa jargon) with posh teams like Real Madrid, Manchester City and even Bayern Munich. He will therefore not be able to be placed in the same first round group as these big cars, during the draw on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. French in Miami.

Hat 1 also includes three prestigious Brazilian clubs (Flamengo, Palmeiras, Fluminense) and one Argentinian (River Plate). On the other hand, hat 2, which only includes European clubs, is just as tough and promises at least one formidable opponent in Paris during the group stage: Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Porto, Atlético Madrid, Benfica Lisbon, Juventus Turin… Only Salzburg appears as Tom Thumb in this “pot”.

Reunion with Messi?

Hats 3 and 4 give pride of place to American, Asian, Persian Gulf and even Maghreb teams. PSG could thus face its former superstar Lionel Messi with Inter Miami, placed in hat 4, or its former striker Edinson Cavani with Boca Juniors in hat 3. This “pot” 3 also includes the recent winner of the Copa Libertadores, Botafogo, Brazilian club owned by John Textor, the president of Lyon.

If the placement of the different continental confederations in the four hats was fixed in advance, the placement of the teams depends on their ranking within their confederation. This ranking is based on their performances in continental cups over the last few seasons. During the draw, clubs of the same nationality or even confederation cannot be placed in the same group, with the exception of UEFA: four of the groups will include two European teams.
