This Tuesday, December 3, the Fan Council, a meeting between representatives of Anderlecht supporters and management, is on the program. Olivier Renard will therefore for the first time officially present his project.
The arrival ofOlivier Renard at RSC Anderlecht did not go smoothly. The chronic instability of the club tires the supporters, and even if it seemed clear that the romance between Sporting and Jesper Fredberg had come to an end, such a change a few months before the transfer window was cause for concern. Especially when it is preceded by the departures of two other important pawns: coach Brian Riemer and academy director Mikkel Hemmersam.
Above all, the identity of Fredberg’s replacement has raised the hackles of a section of the Lotto Park public: Olivier Renard is clearly labeled “Rouche” due to his past as a player and sports director at Sclessin. During the first match after the announcement of his arrival, in Tubize, banners were aimed directly at him. Renard’s quote in Operation Clean Hands is also bad.
Anderlecht supporters ready to give Renard a chance
Very quickly, however, things calmed down, for two reasons: first, a fairly large part – overall, the “non-ultra” public of Astrid Park – of Anderlecht supporters did not appreciate this hostility, believing that She was moved at a time when David Hubert and his men needed support. Then and above all, the results began to follow.
The fact that the meeting only took place on December 3 was therefore a small risk taken, but it paid off, because the Renard-Vandenhaute duo will discuss with a Fan Council that is much more peaceful than a few months ago. Anderlecht remains undefeated in Europe and has had some big results against Kortrijk, La Gantoise and Cercle de Bruges.
The supporters’ representatives will be able to question the new sports director on his policy and his plans for the winter transfer window which opens in a little less than a month. It is impossible to judge him concretely before these first weeks, but Renard will have to prove that he has understood the needs of the RSCA in certain positions.
As Patrice Bernier, legend of CF Montreal, explained to us, just after the appointment of Olivier Renard (read here), the latter was very appreciated in Quebec for his transparent and straightforward communication. This is again what he will have to demonstrate this Tuesday to the Anderlecht public.
Paradoxically, it is rather Wouter Vandenhautewhose personality is not necessarily very appreciated among the supporters, who risks having to walk eggshells during this meeting. His role as no longer so non-executive president, his takeover of Sporting affairs and his decisions sometimes appearing impulsive, as well as the relative failure of the “Danish era” of the RSCA, will be put under his nose during this Fan Council.
