INTERVIEW. Pro D2: “I really like , the people are very nice in the street”, recognizes the Chilean Javier Eissmann

the essential
After celebrating his first start on Friday, the Chilean Javier Eissmann looks back on his discovery of this championship and his desire to continue.

How did you react to the announcement of your tenure?

I learned it on Wednesday. Sébastien Calvet gave the score sheet late enough to keep the group focused. Before, it was waiting, even if I saw in training that I was going to play. Finally, I had this chance, and I am very happy despite the result.

Was there stress?

No, not much, although some may think I put pressure on myself. But I have experience, I have already done the World Cup. There was a bit of stress and waiting, but it wasn’t stress that puts pressure on to play. It’s the one that raises the level to be at the top on match day.

What are your impressions of this championship?

It goes very quickly. Béziers offers very strong play with the forwards, but that’s a bit my specialty. I was able to show my qualities during certain passages. They have very good forwards, but we have shown that we have a good pack too. We showed ourselves in the best possible way, even if we lost. We had intentions that we perhaps hadn’t had before.

Are you satisfied with your match?

We cannot be completely satisfied with the result, especially with our position in the ranking. But I’m happy to be able to play sixty minutes, and to have been able to develop my game more than in , where it was different.

We also saw you clash with your opponents…

This is the fighting spirit desired by the coaches and what is asked of us. This is also what must happen on the pitch sometimes. There is the game, and the attitudes to have.

Physically, how did you feel?

It went well, but I hadn’t played sixty minutes in almost two months. It had been a month since my last match in Grenoble, where I played for half an hour. I was a little tired, but that’s normal, and the changes were made in the best possible way to get the best performance.

What is your goal now?

A rugby player always wants to play, and I want to play as much as possible.

How do you feel here?

I am very happy. At the beginning, I saw that it was a small town of 30,000 inhabitants. I lived in Santiago, a city of 5 million people. I thought it would be difficult, but I actually really like it. Everything is nearby. I really like Agen. The people are very nice on the street and I am very comfortable here.
