On Sunday, the 38-year-old Kenyan dominated the competition which this year saw a record participation with 55,000 runners at the start from 84 countries, an increase of 33% 33% compared to last year.
The event, which took place over three days, included five categories of races, including the return of the Ekiden relay.
Geoffrey Yegon crossed the finish line in 2hours 16 minutes 6 seconds in the men’s category for his first participation in this Singapore race.
Celebrating his victory, Geoffrey said: “It feels great to win. This is my first time coming to Singapore and participating in a competition. Coming from Kenya, the Singapore race was always ‘wow’, so I always wanted to come here. Singapore is very nice, but it’s very hot, so I trained very hard in Kenya to try to win the race.”
In the women’s category, Fantu Zewude Jifar from Ethiopia became champion with a time of 02.39.04.
Fantu kept his comment short and sweet: “I’m happy to have won, Singapore is a beautiful country to run. I don’t know yet what I’m going to do with the prize money, but I do know that I can’t wait to come back to Singapore.”
