The Council of State adopted the draft decision relating to subsidizing the renovation of sports facilities at the finish area of the Nationale in Crans-Montana (Barzettes). These installations, considered to be of cantonal importance, may be subject to a state subsidy up to a maximum of 30% of the total eligible costs, which represents an amount of approximately 4.4 million francs. This renovation should make it possible to meet the organizational and technical requirements generated by the organization of international sporting events, such as the 2027 Alpine Ski World Championships. The Grand Council should decide on this draft decision during the February 2025 session.
The draft decision relating to subsidizing the renovation of sports facilities at the finish area of the Nationale, at Barzettes in Crans-Montana, was adopted by the Council of State. In accordance with current legislation, these facilities are considered to be of cantonal importance and corresponding to the needs for international competitions. According to the Valais sports law, the State of Valais can subsidize the renovation or construction of this type of infrastructure up to 30% of the total eligible costs. The latter are linked to the practice of the sporting activity, to the stands and spectator seats, as well as to the working areas of the media. The amount of the investment reaches 14.7 million francs, thus allowing a maximum state subsidy of around 4.4 million francs.
The Association of Municipalities of Crans-Montana (ACCM) coordinated the project with the International Ski Federation (FIS) and ski race organizers. The planned renovation should make it possible to use the arrival stadium in the long term for the annual stages of the men’s and/or women’s Alpine Ski World Cup, as well as for the World Championships scheduled for 2027.
In order to meet the organizational and technical requirements necessary for the organization of such sporting events, it is planned to modify the internal structure of the existing building dedicated to media and timing work. The project offers large “partitionable” spaces in order to guarantee adaptability according to the different needs of users. It also provides for the construction of a new basement to store all the equipment necessary for preparing the tracks and to accommodate the coaches necessary for TV production.
Alongside international events, the building will be able to accommodate young people from regional, national and elite alpine ski teams during competitions and training, both winter and summer. In addition, all training related to winter sports, such as Youth+Sport courses, can take place in this infrastructure, as can other events, for example cultural events. The draft decision should be submitted to the Grand Council during the February 2025 session.
