Mikaela Shiffrin ignores – rts.ch

Mikaela Shiffrin will not compete in the Killington slalom on Sunday. The American star fell heavily on Saturday in a giant in the Vermont resort, where she hoped to collect her 100th World Cup success.

Big favorite in the slalom, Mikaela Shiffrin announced her withdrawal on X (ex-Twitter), while reassuring about her condition after her fall during the second round of the giant. “I wish my teammates good luck tomorrow! I will cheer them on from the sidelines“, a écrit Shiffrin.

In the video attached to this message, the 29-year-old American indicated that there was “no real reason to worry“of her condition, while specifying that she had”a good scratch and something stabbed (her)“, apparently not serious, at the level of the left hip.

A rare fall

The last skier to start the second run after dominating the first, Mikaela Shiffrin still had a lead of 17 hundredths of a second over future winner Hector after the second sector of the track. The American then made a first mistake on a right turn before the slope became steeper.

Four doors later, on a new “left foot”, a second fault dragged her to the ground, head forward, before causing her to hit two doors then projecting her into the safety nets. After remaining on the ground for several seconds, “Mikaela went down the track in a boat,” said the American federation.

The falls of Mikaela Shiffrin – who requested her split times after her fall – are very rare: she has only retired 21 times in 274 World Cup starts since her debut in 2011. On the other hand, she sank during the Olympic Games from Beijing in 2022, with three falls and no medals.
