Remco Evenepoel relies on a solid group of teammates at Soudal Quick-Step, especially during stage races. Among them, Louis Vervaeke, a loyal lieutenant, who shared several notable moments with him, such as Evenepoel’s victory at the 2022 Vuelta or the last Tour de France, where the young Belgian finished on the podium.
In a team podcast, Vervaeke confides: “Our relationship has strengthened over the years. Running together, experiencing stressful moments and sharing altitude courses forges strong bonds.”

Before joining Evenepoel, Louis Vervaeke rode alongside Mathieu van der Poel at Alpecin-Fenix.“When I meet Mathieu during a race, we always chat a little. It’s always very relaxed.”
According to Vervaeke, Van der Poel and Evenepoel stand out for their approach to cycling and their character. “Mathieu is a very relaxed leader. He likes to have fun and runs above all for passion, not for money or ego.”
On the other hand, he describes Evenepoel as a fierce competitor: “Remco is a real mulehead. He’s a fighter who wants to crush everyone. With him, you have to constantly improve to stay in the group, otherwise he won’t accept it.”
