Not exempt from all criticism during PSG's major displays this season in the Champions League, Gianluigi Donnarumma was conspicuously absent during the Parisian club's last two matches, including the C1 shock lost to Bayern Munich (0-1) under the decision of Luis Enrique. The growing frustration at Donnarumma would make him question his possible contract extension at PSG.
Gianluigi Donnarumma is going through a not easy pass sportingly speaking. Indeed, and while he has an indisputable starting position since the appointment of Christophe Galtier as coach in July 2022, the European champion with Italy had to sit on the substitutes' bench during the last two outings of the PSG against the Toulouse FC (3-0) and this week against Bayern Munich for the 5th day of the regular season of the Ligue of the champions (0-1).
Donnarumma questions his contract extension at PSG?
A strong message sent by Luis Enrique who favored the profile of Matthew Safonov against the German giant due to the pressing of Bayern Munichthe Russian goalkeeper being better able to handle the pressure from the Bavarian attackers. A situation that would frustrate Gianluigi Donnarumma according to The Team which would push him to ask questions about the esteem that the Paris Saint–Germain would really wear on him.
Worse, and while the two parties seem inclined to agree on the terms of an extension of his contract expiring in June 2026, Donnarumma would call this decision into question. The Italian would not perceive absolute confidence from Luis Enrique and its technical staff being in the same boat as a goalkeeper with limited references.
“One of my goals is to have a career here as long as that of Marquinhos!”
And yet, the trend was very different last October. Gianluigi Donnarumma revealed on the website of theUEFA that he would like to pursue a career in Marquinhos who began his 11th season at PSG.
“Wearing this jersey is simply incredible. A club like PSG brings a lot on all levels, and I hope to stay here as long as possible and make history. One of my goals is to have a career here as long as that of Marquinhos! I know it's a lot of matches, but I hope I'm up to this mission! That of becoming a leader and helping those who join the club in the future.” It remains to be seen what will happen to the series Donnarumma now.
