The New York Rangers suffered a fifth straight defeat by losing 3-1 to the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday afternoon.
Igor Shesterkin kept his team in the match by making 32 saves, but he still suffered a fourth consecutive defeat for the first time in his career. The Rangers will be the Montreal Canadiens’ next opponent tomorrow.
Travis Konecny scored his 12th and 13th goals of the campaign in the victory, making him the second best scorer in the league during the month of November when he amassed 18 points, behind Martin Necas (7-15).
Bobby Brink was the other scorer in the winning clan, while Ivan Fedotov stopped 22 shots. Philly has won three of its last four games.
Brink put the hosts ahead 3:14 into the game. Tyson Foerster blocked a Jonny Brodzinski shot that allowed him to go on the attack again, then he made a superb backhand pass to number 10, who completed the play in front of the net with a wrist shot.
Travis Konecny made it 2-0 at the end of the period. He doubled Jacob Trouba before beating the goalkeeper between the pads. Rasmus Ristolainen collected an assist in a fourth straight game and Sean Couturier also contributed on the sequence.
After getting only four shots on net in the first period, the Rangers gained momentum in the second period and their work was rewarded by Vincent Trocheck’s goal with a precise shot into the top corner.
Neither team received a penalty until the third period, when Reilly Smith was penalized for holding Owen Tippett. The Flyers, however, were not able to do any damage.
Konecny finally completed the score in an empty net.
