For several years, Noah Makebo has been seen as one of Standard’s most promising talents. But the file is complicated to manage internally, especially given the events of recent months.
For several years, the Standard has made great efforts to put Noah Makembo in the best conditions. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder is one of the Academy’s greatest talents, the club has secured him by making him the biggest contract in SL 16.
However, he no longer appeared with the group in the last four D1 ACFF matches. Sacha Tavolieri revealed the reason on LN 24. The situation has reached a point of no return.
Tavolieri explains that during the training session at Gedinne concluded with a preparation match, the tone rose with the staff. Following a comment from the player which did not pass, the new coach Sébastien Grandjean and the goalkeeper coach allegedly uttered insults against Makeembo.
A huge shortfall for Standard
Aware of the seriousness of the situation, the club then organized a meeting with Makembo’s entourage with the aim of avoiding a complaint for harassment. An agreement was thus reached: the Standard managed to hush up the affair but conceded a clause allowing the player to leave for free in January. Since then, the Liégeois has been training with the U18s.
Information that we are able to confirm. Let us add that already this summer, the tension was palpable between those around him and Standard. While there had been talk of Oscar Olivier accompanying him on a potential transfer to Club Brugge, the situation was actually a bit different: the Blauw en Zwart wanted Oscar Olivier but refused a group purchase with Makebo.
