The winter transfer window starts in barely a month, on January 1, 2025. But in the meantime, AJA, currently 7th in Ligue 1, continues to extend important members of its workforce. After Gideon Mensah, Lassine Sinayoko (until June 2026) and Clément Akpa (until June 2027) in recent weeks, it is the turn of Paul Joly to extend his lease on the Vaux route. The Icaunais club communicated it this Friday. One more year for the Auxerre right-back, now linked to AJA until June 2027.
Arriving on the banks of the Yonne from Amiens in the summer of 2020, Joly (24 years old) experienced a first rise at the end of the 2021/2022 season (18 starts in Ligue 2) but had not played only the first part of the following year in Ligue 1, before being loaned for six months to Dijon, then in L2, in the winter of 2023.
The best right back in Ligue 2 last season
An experience in Dijon that he was able to put to good use by signing a more than successful 2023/2024 season with a promotion, 37 matches played in Ligue 2, eight assists and a place in the typical L2 team in the UNFP Trophies.
In competition with the Dutchman Ki-Jana Hoever this season, Paul Joly played seven Ligue 1 matches (four starts) before injuring his knee at the beginning of October after the trip to Saint-Étienne, lost 3-1. He returned to the Auxerre group last weekend, during the reception of Angers, won 1-0 by the Ajaïstes. He should be part of it again for the match in Toulouse, scheduled for this Sunday (5 p.m., 13th day L1).
