“Too many cooks spoil the sauce”. It is with these words that Flip van der Merwe announced his departure of Biarritz Olympic Basque Country this Thursday in a message published on his X account. With Marc Baget and Shaun Hégarty, the former second line was one of the buyers who arrived to take over from the Gave-Aldigé duo. Member of the board, the former South African international deplores “recent strategic decisions” which are not related “with the values and direction of the club”. This summer, Flip Van der Merwe, elected chairman of the board, left his place to Arnaud Dubois. In his departure message, Flip Van Der Merwe thanks “Otium Capital and Pierre-Edouard Stérin for believing in the project”. He also wishes “all the best for the future to Shaun Hégarty and his team”. After seven months at the club, Flip Van Der Merwe was one of the architects in the renovation of the weight room. “I leave the club in a better position than I found it and for that I am proud“, he concludes.
For his part, Shaun Hegarty, chairman of the BOPB Supervisory Board, took “act of resignation of Flip van der Merwe as member of the management board” in a press release.
