Freshly crowned world champion in Las Vegas, Max Verstappen is happy to have continued an already impressive series started in 2021. The Red Bull driver salutes the work of his team, and he hopes to finish the season in style, starting this weekend in Qatar.
“Winning the championship was an incredible moment and I am very proud of what we have achieved as a team and of myself. This victory means a lot to us and being a four-time world champion is something I ‘never thought possible’ Verstappen said.
“I want to thank everyone who was a part of this success for their support this year, what a season we had. There were tough times, but we stuck together, we never gave up and we are came back stronger, and that’s what makes the season so special.”
“As for Qatar, we are still focused on this race, which will be very sprint-heavy. Of course, the season is not over yet and we want to continue the momentum and bring home as many points as possible for the ‘team.”
Sergio Pérez tries to see things as positively as possible, but the Mexican had a difficult weekend in Las Vegas: “Las Vegas was positive in that we had pace in the race and it was good to see that we were able to be more competitive throughout the race.”
“For the last two races we need to make qualifying work and get the car in the right window more consistently, so we can start where we should on race days.”
“Qatar presents totally different challenges to Vegas, so it will be interesting to see how the car performs on the surface here, in totally different temperatures.”
“The Sprint format means we lose time on the track, but I have been at the factory with my team this week to make sure we are as well prepared as possible to get off to a good start on Friday.”
Furthermore, Red Bull has confirmed that Max Verstappen will give up his place to Isack Hadjar for EL1 of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the last race of the season. The Frenchman had already driven at Silverstone.
Hadjar could also do the young driver tests, since Jake Dennis, the team’s other reserve, will be in Brazil for the opening of the Formula E season.
