???? Surprise: ruled out, this Club Brugge player was present at Celtic Park… for a very particular reason – All football

Dedryck Boyata was disappointed not to be part of Club Brugge’s plans to face his two former employers, Manchester City and Celtic. The former Devils defender, however, found an alternative solution.

During half-time of the Champions League match between Celtic and Club Brugge this Wednesday evening, Dedryck Boyata appeared unexpectedly on the pitch. The 34-year-old defender, who did not travel to Glasgow with the Blauw & Zwart, presented a check for £15,000 to the winner of Celtic’s regular raffle, the ‘Paradise Windfall’.

The “Paradise Windfall” is a tradition at Celtic home matches. Supporters buy a ticket for 2 pounds which gives them the chance to win the jackpot. At half-time, a former Scottish club player presents the check to the winner.

Yesterday it was the turn of Boyata, who played for Celtic between 2019 and 2021. It was a symbolic return for the former Red Devil, although his presence stood in stark contrast to his current situation at Club Brugge.

Boyata present at Celtic – Bruges… but not with his employer

Since September, Boyata has no longer trained with the Club’s first team and has been working on his physical condition individually. He also had to leave his place in the locker room for a separate room. His last appearance was in February, under then coach Ronny Deila.

Despite attempts by Club Brugge to let him leave this summer due to his high salary – which is said to be close to three million euros gross – no solution has been found. Furthermore, Boyata refused to give up his contract. With a few more months remaining until the end of his lease, Boyata seems to be quietly waiting for the end of his adventure in Venice of the North.
