This has to be Cayden Primeau’s last chance tonight

There have always been expectations for Cayden Primeau.

And this, even though he was drafted in the 7th round in 2017.

It was especially his two years at Northeastern that opened his eyes from just about everyone. Because in the NCAA, the American was dominant.

On the other hand, Primeau was slow to establish himself as a goaltender in the National League.

We saw a few flashes of him, especially in the last season… But I think you’ll agree with me if I say that it pretty much ends there.

That said, it is he who will have the opportunity to face the Blue Jackets this evening in Columbus, while the Canadian will play a second game in as many evenings. Monty did well yesterday, and he deserves a night off.

But as soon as I knew it was going to be Primeau in net, here’s what I said to myself:

This must be his last chance.

The development of a goalkeeper takes longer than that of an attacker or a defender and this is not new.

But when we look at Primeau’s statistics this season, even though he is 25 years old, we realize that he doesn’t look like a National League goalie:

  • 1-2-1 record (he played in eight games)
  • Goals against average of 4.59
  • Efficiency rate of .842

At some point… Enough is enough. The Canadian has put a lot of effort into developing the goaltender, but you can’t move forward if he doesn’t do the job in front of the net.

If Primeau is not capable to take out a big one This evening, I would like to see the Canadian move to find an experienced guy to support Montembeault.

There has been a lot of talk lately that there is a leadership problem in the locker room… And maybe getting your hands on an older goalkeeper could help calm things down.

Because the Monty – Primeau duo, we know that it is not the duo with the most experience in the NHL.

To be continued, therefore. But Primeau better not get screwed tonight because I feel like it could be the end otherwise.

And if that happens, I’ll be curious to see what the Canadian will do with him.

In burst

– Exactly, speaking of leadership…

– Sean Monahan gives love to the fans in Montreal.

– Anyway.

– It’s no surprise.

– The photo is incredibly beautiful.
