one of the sailors victim of serious damage

On the outskirts of the top 10 in the Vendée Globe, Swiss sailor Justine Mettraux was the victim of major damage with the headsail which tore, making it unusable.

A huge blow for the Swiss sailor. While heading down the South Atlantic towards the Cape of Good Hope, Justine Mettraux (38 years old) suffered damage very early this Wednesday, with the headsail tearing.

“That night, my 'J0' ended up tearing, in a different place than the one I had repaired. This time the sail really opened and fell partly into the water. It took me a lot of energy and time to bring everything back on board,” confided TeamWork Team skipper Snef, who has had a lot of trouble in recent days in the Vendée Globe. The day before, she had already had to make repairs to her mainsail.

If no other damage is to be deplored, his front sail is now unusable for the remainder of this solo, non-stop and unassisted round-the-world trip. “There is no choice, we will have to do without it now. I will have to adapt, that will be the key word now to face adversity,” added Justine Mettraux, who finds herself in the same situation as Clarisse Crémer. The Frenchwoman had also lost her headsail just three days after leaving Les Sables-d'Olonne.

And this incident is all the more regrettable as she was sailing on the edge of the top 10. At the last score this Wednesday (3 p.m.), she fell to 13th place just behind Clarisse Crémer, who managed to find solutions to continue her progression. It’s up to Justine Mettraux to do the same.
