Failed entry for Jaraaf, beaten 2-0 by ASEC Mimosas

For their first outing in the group stage of the CAF Cup, Jaraaf de Dakar lost 2-0 against ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan. A meeting where the Medinese, despite some interesting sequences, never really found the solutions against a more realistic Ivorian team.

The first half was dull, just like the statistics. The Senegalese tried to impose their rhythm with five shots recorded, but only one on target. Opposite, ASEC, uninspired in the game, demonstrated clinical efficiency at the end of the period. In the 45th minute, a harmless cross from the Ivorians surprised Cheikh Ndoye, allowing ASEC to take the advantage just before the break. Returning from the locker room, the locals, galvanized by their goal, dominated the first minutes, seeking to increase the score. Malick Daf, aware of the need to react, made two changes with the entries of Pape Souleymane Dione and Maheri Touré. These adjustments allowed Jaraaf to take control of possession, but without really worrying the Ivorian goalkeeper.

Despite some intentions, the Medinese were once again punished in the 71st minute. On a cross from the right, Kankonde Tshisungo took the upper hand in the air and adjusted an unstoppable header to double the lead. Overwhelmed, Cheikh Ndoye was unable to do anything about the precision of the gesture.

Jaraaf, now down 2-0, tried to react, but without much inspiration. The entries, notably that of Jean Boncande, were not enough to reverse the trend. The Ivorians, confident and well in place, managed the end of the match by maintaining possession, leaving no hope to the Senegalese. This defeat immediately puts Jaraaf in a delicate position in this group C. Pape Souleymane Dione’s teammates will have to raise their level during the next day, where they will host USM Alger, favorite of the group, on December 8 at Lat Dior Stadium in Thiès. An important match to hope to stay in the race in this competition.
