Jaraaf de Dakar begins its campaign in the group stage of the African Football Confederation Cup this Wednesday with a highly important match against ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan.
The meeting, scheduled for 4 p.m. at the legendary Félix Houphouët-Boigny stadium, will mark the start of the Senegalese club’s ambition on the continental scene after three years of absence in the group stage. This season, Jaraaf, leader of the Senegalese Ligue 1, returns to the competition after impressing during the preliminary rounds. The club eliminated East End Lions of Sierra Leone (4-0 aggregate) and Racing Club Abidjan (3-0 aggregate). For its part, ASEC Mimosas, the most successful Ivorian club in Côte d’Ivoire, did not have an easy task in qualifying.
After losing against the Kara Club Sports Association of Togo in the first leg, ASEC reversed the situation by winning 2-0 in the return home, thus validating its ticket to the group stages. Today’s match will be important for both teams, who share the same ambition: to go far in this competition. Jaraaf, quarter-finalist in 2021, intends to use its experience and solidity to challenge a team from ASEC Mimosas, also feared on an African scale.
