Marie-Amélie Le Fur, future president of the National Sports Agency (ANS)? In any case, this is what the Minister of Sports, Gil Avérous, is campaigning for, who will propose the name of the Loir-et-Chérien athlete to lead the institution.
The minister and mayor of Châteauroux will propose the name of the champion during the general assembly of the ANS, this Thursday, November 28. Created in 2019, it is the armed arm of the State for high-level sport and the development of sporting practice.
“After the first five years of action marked by the Paris 2024 Games, and at the time of writing a new page, I will propose on Thursday to the general assembly of the ANS to appoint Marie-Amélie Le Fur as new president“, the Minister of Sports informed AFP in a written message this Wednesday, November 27.
“This choice of trust in the sports movement reflects my desire to bring the shared governance of the ANS to life“, he added. This agency brings together the State, local authorities, the sports movement and business representatives. The “high performance” pole is now headed by Yann Cucherat, who took over from the former handball coach Claude Onesta.
“If the general assembly approves this proposal, the experience of Marie-Amélie Le Fur, her determination to support sport and move it forward, her commitment to working for high performance and to open access to the practice to as many people as possible large number, will be great assets for the Agency“, highlights the Minister of Sports.
The three-time Paralympic champion, specialist in the long jump, 100 and 200 meters, won nine medals at the Paralympic Games during her career. In 2015, she became president of the National Paralympic Committee, with a view to the Paris 2024 Games. During the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, she was one of the last torchbearers.
Since the departure of Michel Cadot, former interministerial delegate to the Olympic Games who left to join Michel Barnier in Matignon, the interim presidency of the ANS was ensured by David Lazarus, mayor of Chambly (Oise).
In 2022, the Court of Auditors had in a report requested that the ANS and the Sports Directorate be able to “clarify” their missions. Heard at the end of October by the deputies on the occasion of the budget, Gil Avérous indicated that he wanted “simplify“the procedures for granting subsidies for sports equipment. He also suggested “relocate“and of”unload“the SLA of this part so that it can concentrate”on performance, on the development of sport and clubs, and support for clubs in management“.
