Pro D2. Victorious Georgians, two ex-wounded soon on the field… the latest news from FCG

Finally a victory for the Georgians

Until now, the Autumn Nations Series 2024 had rhymed with defeat for the Georgian internationals of the FCG, beaten by the All Blacks XV in (13-31) then by Italy in Genoa (17-20).

But last Sunday in Tbilisi, the “Lelos” found their way to victory by dominating Tonga (22-7, half-time: 0-0). Once again, Giorgi Kveseladze started in the center and played the entire 80 minutes of the match. On the other hand, 2nd line Giorgi Javakhia was a substitute in 2nd line and only played the last 40 minutes.

And then, young left prop Giorgi Mamaiashvili played his first match of the autumn tour; but, coming on in the 54th minute, he received a yellow card two minutes later, shortening his playing time by ten minutes.

Soon the debut for Sirgel and R. Trouilloud?

Away from the field since the start of the 2024-2025 season, recruit Hanru Sirgel (arrived at the beginning of October in Isère, after finishing the Currie Cup with the Griquas) and Romain Trouilloud (injured in the shoulder at the end of last season) are close to a return to the field. The South African 3rd line (also affected in the hamstring in the fall) and the Isère center could experience their first minutes of play in Pro D2 this season, Friday against (9 p.m.).

Internal recruitment is accelerating

After a phase of interviews with the sports staff, in October, the twenty or so players at the end of their contract at FCG took advantage of the month of November to meet the club’s management. For a majority of them, discussions have started with a view to extending their contracts.

The Isère club is particularly pushing to extend its Welsh opener Sam Davies, very convincing since his arrival in Isère (summer 2023), with 32 matches and 309 points to his credit.
