The exodus begins in Deinze: “An executive says goodbye”

It is still unclear what the future holds for KMSK Deinze. The second division club has been flirting with bankruptcy for some time, which could have been declared on Tuesday. In the end, it did not come to that, the decision having been postponed for two weeks.

The new owners thus have a little time to raise the necessary financial means, even if they no longer have a say in the club. In fact, the court placed the club under provisional administration. It remains to be seen what the outcome of this procedure will be.

Exodus threatens in Deinze

Indeed, there are still many debts to pay at Deinze, starting with the players’ unpaid salaries. They therefore already refused to train last week and also boycotted the championship match against Francs Borains, thus forcing the hopefuls to show up.

An exodus to Deinze is still in sight, as many players have already started the process of terminating their contracts after more than two months of non-payment. A prominent player also announced his departure from Deinze.

Mertens, first to announce his departure

On his social networks, Lennart Mertens announced that he was leaving the club. “It’s very hard for me. After 9 seasons of ups and downs, but above all highs, I decided to leave the club of my heart after all the vicissitudes of recent times,” he wrote.

This is a leading figure who is leaving since the 32-year-old striker had been in Deinze since 2016. This period was only interrupted by a half-season interlude at Club NXT. According to Het Nieuwsblad, Mertens has also already found a new employer, as he is expected to sign for a season and a half with SK Beveren.
