A breathtaking period by Brandon Hagel

Getting four assists in one game is a good night’s work, but to do it in the first period is simply exceptional.

As proof, Brandon Hagel is only the ninth player to achieve this feat of arms since the mid-1980s. The Tampa Bay Lightning forward was very generous in the first twenty minutes of Monday night’s game against at the Colorado Avalanche, which the “Bolts” won 8 to 2.

Hagel thus joined big names in history like Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Adam Oates and… Rostislav Klesla. The defensive defender was the last to score four goals in the first half, which he did on March 28, 2013.

Towards the end of the 2012-13 lockout-shortened season, Klesla doubled his campaign point total during this game. The Phoenix Coyotes guard only amassed eight points, including six assists, in 38 games that year.

Coming back to Hagel, he added an assist during the next 40 minutes. Three Lightning players had obtained as many in a game before him, namely Mark Recchi, Martin St-Louis and Darren Raddysh.
