What happened to Manager 2015 hopefuls?

Some video games increasingly focus on realism and this is particularly the case with Manager.

But has that always been the case? Was the game right in the past about which players would dominate world football? Ten years after the release of Football Manager 2015, Sportbible took stock of the predictions.

Football Manager Predictions

As for the goalkeeper, Laurentui Branescu, we can’t really say that the predictions of the game were correct. Ten years ago, the Romanian was described as a top goalkeeper in the making but since his time at Juventus, he has been loaned out eight times before returning to his native country in 2021.

In defense, the one the game made no mistake about was Marquinhos, who has a career that started at Corinthians before joining Roma for a season and then moving to Saint-Germain, where he has been playing since 2013. With 95 caps for Brazil, he has also become a pillar in the national team.

Partly right

Among the defenders that the game had targeted, there was also Samuel Umtiti, who was Belgium’s tormentor at the 2018 World Cup and who had a good run. Jonny Otto and José Gaya are less well known even if they have career paths that have allowed them to achieve some brilliant achievements.

Other players that Football Manager pointed to as the future of world football a decade ago are Lucas Romero, Mateo Kovacic, Martin Odegaard, Gerard Deulofeu, Luciano Vietto and Denis Suarez. The last two are undoubtedly those who least proved the game developers right.

In Spain, Vietto never really managed to convince during his various loans and he was not more successful during his time at Sporting Portugal. He then moved to Al-Hilal, AL Qadsiah before returning to Racing Club, the team where it all started for him in 2011.

Finally, the Spaniard Denis Suarez will never really have confirmed, he who had nevertheless signed for Manchester City before joining Barcelona. The striker will only have one cap with Spain despite having represented his country in all age teams.
