Patrik Laine is not going to change everything

The Canadian has been inconsistent since the start of the season.

The club can play well and perform well for a few matches in a row… But it can also collapse quickly and experience long difficult times.

But in defeat, there is above all one element that comes up often. And here I’m talking about the blatant lack of effort from some players.

This is one of the Canadiens’ biggest problems at the moment and it’s ironic because behind the bench, there is Martin St-Louis who is there.

We’re talking about the same guy who had success in the National League because he showed fighting spirit and because he fought to find his place. There was effort in the game of Martin St-Louis when he played in the NHL… As there was in that of Stéphane Robidas and Trevor Letowski.

That said, it can be easy to think that things will improve upon the return of Patrik Laine because he has his qualities… But those who believe that he will change everything will be disappointed.

For what?

Because Laine, well… He’s not necessarily the hardest-working guy on earth.

He may have an excellent shot and that will never change, but we also understand that he is not the one who is going to push the group to push even harder.

He’s not the one who’s going to lead others towards absolute effort, let’s put it that way.

It’s certain that Patrik Laine will help the team at certain levels… But only when he has completely shaken off the rust.

Because we must not forget this too: when the maverick returns, we must not expect him to fill the net at a completely crazy rate.

He’s going to need time, after all. And that’s completely normal. A bit like we see with Kirby Dach, even if it starts to be relatively worrying in the case of #77…

For the effort problem to be resolved, it is up to the important players to stand up and lead by example.

Slaf, Suzuki, Caufield… When the big guns of a club work hard, it is easier for the rest of the group to keep up.

And that’s what leaders need to understand. It starts in training and at that level, maybe the guys need to be more serious too.

In burst

He’s really hot.

– Auston Matthews is back in training.

– The Hurricanes are looking for a goalie.

– If he continues to perform like this, he will win the Vezina. And it won’t even be a question.

– Happy reading.
