Grant Williams injured, an opportunity for Tidjane Salaün and Moussa Diabaté?

Grant Williams, seriously injured in the knee this weekend, will not play again for the season. A long-term absence which could make room for young Frenchmen Tidjane Salaün and Moussa Diabaté.

Last night against the Magic, Tidjane had his most playing time of the season, by far: 30 minutes spent on the field as a starter for the rookie trained in , a big jump for someone who had never exceeded 23 minutes since the NBA resumed a month ago.

As for Moussa Diabaté, who has become one of Charlotte’s favorites through his heavy activity in the rackets, he played a third consecutive match at least 31 minutes (as a substitute) and had his second playing time on most important of the entire season.

To summarize, the French have never taken such a place among the Hornets, and it could continue.

Grant Williams looked like a serious knee injury. Means they will need a lot out of Moussa Diabate with every other big out. Deeper leagues will look to Salaun as well

As mentioned by reporter Roderick Boone, who covers the Hornets for the Charlotte Observerinjuries to interior players Mark Williams (foot) and Nick Richards (ribs) may push coach Charles Lee to rely more than expected on our Frenchies in the absence of Grant Williams.

We remind you that the latter played 15 matches including 7 as a starter for 30 minutes of play on average this season. His injury therefore frees up a lot of playing time on the frontcourt, and it will be up to Tidjane Salaün and Moussa Diabaté to take advantage of it with their soldier profile that can help the Hornets defensively. If Moussa did not wait for Grant Williams’ injury to make his breakthrough, Tidjane will have to quickly prove that he can step-up (only 1 point and 7 rebounds in 30 minutes yesterday against Orlando).

Quickly yes, because Mark Williams and Nick Richards seem to be getting closer to a return, having just joined the Hornets G League team to get back into rhythm. So no time to waste for our French, we must continue to score points with Charles Lee to hope to have a real place throughout the Hornets season.
