Argentine justice is deliberating its decision on a possible dismissal of the case

Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou are still not settled. After almost five months, numerous postponements of hearings and procedural appeals, the Argentine justice system deliberated its decision after examining the request for dismissal, this Thursday. The two French rugby players, charged with aggravated rape for events that occurred in early July on the sidelines of a day of the XV of , will have to wait again. No date has been communicated for the final decision.

“A complicated case”

“The judge will decide the result, and will take (the) few days necessary. It’s a complicated case,” Rafael Cuneo Libarona, the players’ lawyer, told journalists after a second day of hearing behind closed doors at the Mendoza judicial center. The judge “did not say” how long she would take to make her decision, he said.

The dismissal of the case had been requested at the end of August by the representatives of the two young French internationals. The prosecution also pleaded for the prosecution to be dropped, as it had announced at the end of the investigation at the beginning of October.

Since the beginning of July, Auradou and Jegou, 21, have been charged with aggravated rape committed in a meeting. The alleged facts occurred on the night of July 6 to 7 in a hotel room in Mendoza, where the French XV had just played a test match against Argentina, followed by a third half.

The players have maintained from the beginning that the sexual relations with the complainant, met in a nightclub, were consensual and without violence. The complainant’s lawyer, however, denounced a rape with “terrible violence”. Over the course of the investigation, analysis of testimonies, video surveillance images and audio messages (from the complainant with a friend, in particular), “the initial accusation lost its force”, noted the prosecution. at the end of August, by authorizing the return of players to France.
