Ardon Jashari acquired his starting stripes in Bruges. The 22-year-old from Zoug, with a bright future, was part of the Club’s starting eleven during the last 6 Pro League matches. Coincidence or not, his team collected 14 points (4 wins and 2 draws) during these 6 matches and is now in 2nd place in the standings. The defensive midfielder even had a first success in the Blauw en Zwart jersey (blue and black) which he has worn since July and his transfer from Lucerne.
Perfectly unmarked in the area, Jashari managed a hook before crossing his shot to make it 6-0 during his team’s 7-0 defeat against Sint-Truiden. This goal crowns convincing performances in the month of November which have earned him much praise in Flanders, where the talent of the player, launched by Mario Frick in central Switzerland in 2022, is being emulated. Enough to relegate to oblivion the start of the controversy born from an interview granted to Het Laatste Nieuws and published on November 6 in the columns of the Dutch-speaking Belgian daily.
In this interview, he said in particular that he felt “100% Albanian”. The director of the national teams Pierluigi Tami, however, brushed aside the first questions that appeared in the press during the November gathering for which the captain of Switzerland U21 was called by Murat Yakin (he had the flu, but did not make the trip in Spain). “Certain statements can sometimes be poorly received by people, but having spoken for a long time with Jashari at the time, I can say that he feels 100% Albanian and 100% Swiss. When he had to choose his selection, it was never a question of Albania. He wanted to play for Switzerland and anyway he can only play for Switzerland“, Tami told Le Matin. As a reminder, the Zougois played two official matches with the national team, the last of which in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, and was also part of the group at the Euro 2024, even if he did not play.
