Fifteen years after winning the bronze medal at the French senior karate championships, Judicaël Letang returned to a national podium (3e), at the beginning of November in Verquin (Pas-de-Calais), during the French Open. “I am quite surprised by my performance, points out the 37-year-old Fontenay Karate Shotokan licensee. I didn’t think I would find my way back to the top level so quickly…”
In 2023, the native of Blois (Cher) spoke with the technical and sporting director of the Fontenais club, who trained him. « Christophe (Brondy) offered me a reintegration project in the club, in which I could share my passion with the youngest (through coaching) », explains the former professional parachutist, sixth in the European team championships in 2009. He accepted.
Goal for the national title: “that would be the Holy Grail!” »
To validate his second dan, Judicaël Letang had to participate in five competitions. “I took personal lessons with Christophe. From the first sessions, he told me: it’s not bad for a veteran (smile). You still have something under your feet, rewinds the one who was in sports studies at the François Rabelais high school in Fontenay-le-Comte. This made me want to start again with the objective of the French championships. »
Third in cadet (-75 kg), in junior (-80 kg), in senior and second in the second junior year, he is seeking the gold medal. The one that is missing from his pretty list. “That would be the Grail!” exclaims the Fontenay Shotokan licensee, fifth at the Lisbon Open (+ 84 kg), in September. I would like to show that there is no age to be competitive and that, despite different backgrounds, you can achieve your dream. »
Judicaël Letang hopes to reach it by the time he is 40. In the meantime, the close protection agent intends to pass on his experience to the club’s young members.
