Blues 5 — Rangers 2

Brayden Schenn broke a tie early in the third period and the St. Louis Blues won 5-2 over the New York Rangers for the debut of Jim Montgomery behind the bench.

Montgomery was fired by the Boston Bruins last week and replaced Drew Bannister, fired Saturday, at the helm of the Blues.

Quebecer Zachary Bolduc, twice, Jordan Kyrou, Pavel Buchnevich scored the other goals for the Blues, who had lost seven of their nine previous clashes.

Will Cuylle scored both goals for the Rangers, who lost a third straight game.

Joel Hofer stopped 27 shots to end a three-game losing streak. In the defeat, Igor Shesterkin stopped 38 shots.

Stars 4 — Hurricanes 6

Martin Necas found the back of the net on the power play with 2:07 left and the Carolina Hurricanes had a 6-4 advantage over the Dallas Stars.

Seth Jarvis, Shayne Gostisbehere, Brent Burns, Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov, in an empty net, also scored for the Hurricanes, who ended a two-game losing streak.

In his fourth start of the campaign, Spencer Martin made 15 saves to help his team triumph for the eighth time in a row at home.

Tyler Seguin, Thomas Harley, Mason Marchment and Miro Heiskanen responded for the Stars, who had won five of their previous six duels.

Jake Oettinger stopped 28 shots, but saw his five-game winning streak halted.

Golden Knights 5 — Flyers 4 (TB)

Jack Eichel scored the only goal in the shootout and the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4.

Eichel also had a goal and an assist in regulation, as did his linemate Ivan Barbashev.

Pavel Dorofeyev and Tanner Pearson scored the other two goals for the Golden Knights, who won their third straight game.

Morgan Frost, Sean Couturier, Emil Andrae and Matvei Michkov responded for the Flyers, who lost for the third time in their last four outings.

Ilya Samsonov stopped 32 shots in addition to being perfect in the shootout against Travis Konecny, Owen Tippett and Michkov. Ivan Fedotov stopped 26 shots.

Red Wings 4 – Islanders 2

Lucas Raymond broke a tie in the third period and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the New York Islanders 4-2.

Dylan Larkin, Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson, in an empty net, also scored for the Red Wings, who have won two of their last three games.

Alex Lyon blocked 28 shots to end a three-game losing streak.

Anders Lee and Kyle Palmieri responded for the Islanders, who lost for the fourth time in their last five matches (1-3-1).

Semyon Varlamov stopped 17 shots and suffered his first setback in regulation time since October 30.

Capitals 4 — Panthers 1

Lars Eller scored a double and the Washington Capitals defeated the Florida Panthers 4-1.

Jakob Chychrun provided a goal and two assists for the Capitals, who had lost their last two games.

Eller and Ivan Miroshnichenko completed in an empty net.

Author of 21 saves, Logan Thompson improved his performance to 9-1-1 this season.

Niko Mikkola fought back for Florida, which dropped a fourth straight game.

Spencer Knight blocked 27 shots.

For the first time in 14 games, Sam Reinhart was kept off the scoresheet.

Predators 2 — Devils 5

Nico Hischier scored a hat trick in the middle period and the New Jersey Devils earned their third straight win, 5-2 against the Nashville Predators.

Hischier broke the 1-1 deadlock early in the period. He also scored on the power play at 10:01 before adding a 13^e goal this season, late in the period.

It was a first career hat trick for Hischier, who hadn’t scored in 10 games.

Erik Haula and Justin Dowling were the other scorers for the winners.

New Jersey will try to keep its momentum on Wednesday at home against the St. Louis Blues.

For the Preds, Zachary L’Heureux scored his second goal in the NHL. He was a first-round pick by Nashville in 2021.

The other goal was Filip Forsberg’s.

Over the course of five superiorities, the Predators could not do better than seven shots in total.
