After long negotiations, Formula 1 opens the way for the arrival of Cadillac, a subsidiary of General Motors. It will become the eleventh team in the paddock from 2026.
The American group Liberty Media, owner of F1, announced on Monday that an agreement in principle had been reached with the American manufacturer. Initially, Cadillac will be present with its own team from the 2026 season, then General Motors should also build Formula 1 engines in the future.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) had already declared itself at the beginning of the year in favor of the entry of the American project, whose leader is ex-driver Michael Andretti. The ten current teams in the world championship, however, had long opposed the arrival of a new competitor.
The new team built a racing factory in Silverstone, England under the leadership of Michael Andretti and recruited experienced staff. Ferrari and Honda will be the main engine suppliers when the project launches in 2026.
