Hockey: Junior Team Canada’s case back in court in London

A judge in London, Ont., is scheduled to hear legal submissions Monday in the sexual assault case of five members of the Canadian junior hockey team at the 2018 world championships.

Dillon Dube, Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote and Alex Formenton were charged with sexual assault earlier this year following an incident that allegedly took place at a hotel in the Ontario city in June 2018.

Michael McLeod also faces an additional charge of sexual assault for “participating in the offence”.

The latter as well as MM. Dube and Formenton will be on site.

Lawyers for the players said their clients plan to defend themselves against the allegations. All five are expected to plead not guilty.

A jury trial is scheduled for April 22.

Several weeks have been set aside for legal arguments before then, but issues discussed at those hearings cannot be reported at this time due to a publication ban intended to protect the defendants’ right to a fair trial.
