Tomas Plekanec had a remarkable NHL career with the Canadiens, where he became a key player for over a decade. Known for his consistency, defensive reliability and playmaking skills, Plekanec was a versatile center who excelled in all situations.
Drafted by the Canadiens in 2001 (71st overall), he quickly became one of the forwards two-way the most reliable of the team. In 15 seasons with the Canadiens, Plekanec accumulated more than 600 points, built a reputation for durability and often faced the opposing team’s top lines.
602 points to be exact, which places him 13th in Canadian scoring history and 2nd in Europe behind only Saku Koivu.
Although he had a brief stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Plekanec’s legacy is firmly tied to Montreal.
Number 14 was back in Montreal this week and he took advantage of his time here to see friends and find his second home. It was his first time back here in 6 years and he shared this message to the team’s fans on his Instagram page:
Here is the message he shared along with the images:
Six years have passed since I attended a Canadiens game at the Bell Centre. I would like to thank the Montreal Canadiens organization for their incredible hospitality, and also for allowing me to see how the Laval Rocket organization works. It was a very inspiring week. A big thank you to the Canadiens fans for the warm welcome they gave me at the rink. I really enjoyed coming back to Montreal to meet up with friends and visit places in the beautiful city where I lived for 14 years. Good luck for the rest of the journey!
