SAFE, the elite referees’ union, denounced on Sunday “unspeakable facts and rare violence” which occurred during the Ligue 2 match the day before between Bastia and Lorient, which was interrupted after projectiles were thrown in direction of one of the touchline referees.

Saturday November 23, at the Furiani stadium, the meeting between Bastia and Lorient, counting for the 14th day of Ligue 2, was interrupted in the 37th minute after projectiles from the stands were thrown in the direction of one of the referees from the sidelines, Stéphane Panon.
“The safety of the players – my referee team as well as all the players – will be very important throughout the rest of the match. A security system will be put in place to protect Stéphane Panon, the No. 2 assistant,” said in front of the journalists the referee of the match Willy Delajod.

“Lighters, food, drinks, insults… on a referee. A situation of total insecurity which did not prevent the match from going to the end. What an example!” the union protested in a press release.
While the score was 0 to 0 and the Bastiais had the ball, the referee stopped the game and sent the players back to the locker room after his linesman told him that they had been the target of projectiles, notably “lighters, food and drinks”according to images and information from broadcaster BeIN Sport.
This incident occurred a few minutes after the direct exclusion of Bastiais Jocelyn Janneh, author of an uncontrolled tackle on Lorientais Julien Ponceau (32nd).
The meeting, which kicked off at 8:00 p.m., was able to resume at 9:15 p.m. and reach its conclusion.
On Sunday, a Ligue 1 match between Nantes and Le Havre was interrupted for almost half an hour, after Nantes supporters tried to invade the pitch, furious to see their team trailing 2- 0 a few minutes from the end of the match.
Nearly half an hour later, after convening a crisis unit and reassuring the safety of his players, referee Jérôme Brisard played the few minutes remaining in the match.
