The joy of Pierre Gasly: “I have to justify my salary”

Pierre Gasly set the third fastest time in qualifying for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, a remarkable performance for the French driver who has a string of good results at the end of the 2024 season.

Indeed, since the United States Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly has advanced to Q3 three times while collecting 16 points in total at the finish of these Grands Prix. A performance, combined with that of Esteban Ocon in Brazil, which allowed Alpine to move into sixth place in the manufacturers' standings, even though the season was off to a poor start.

In Las Vegas, Pierre Gasly was one of the last drivers to cross the timing loop, thus taking advantage of a track which improved passage after passage. Tomorrow morning he will start from the second row on the starting grid behind Carlos Sainz and just in front of Charles Leclerc.

Filmed by Canal+, the French driver was greatly praised on his return to Alpine hospitality, meeting Isack Hadjar (RB reserve driver), Oliver Oakes team director and Flavio Briatore special advisor to Alpine in F1. Congratulated by the latter, Pierre Gasly responded with amusement: “I have to justify my salary.”

“It’s amazing, honestly. We didn't think we could reach the top 3 in qualifying. So it was an incredible lap, especially on this circuit,” he declared a few minutes earlier at the F1 microphone. “You're flirting with the walls all the way around and there's a lot of adrenaline, a lot of excitement. I knew coming across the line it was a good lap, but when they told me on the radio that we would be third tomorrow, it's just incredible. I’m really happy.”
