Pep Guardiola extends two-year contract with Manchester City

The Catalan technician was at the end of his contract with the reigning four-time English champion in June 2025.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has signed a two-year contract extension, the Premier League champion club announced on Thursday.
Spaniard Guardiola’s move means he will spend more than a decade at the club he joined in 2016 and led to 18 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and one Champions League.

«Like all City fans, I’m delighted that Pep’s journey with Manchester City continues; allowing his dedication, passion and innovative thinking to continue to shape the gaming landscape“, City president Khaldoon Al Mubarak said in a statement. “His thirst for improvement and success remains insatiable and the direct beneficiaries will be our players and coaching staff, our club culture and English football as a whole “. Guardiola’s contract was due to expire at the end of this season, next June.

The announcement of his extension for two additional years comes after four successive defeats, in all competitions, a series of setbacks unprecedented in his coaching career. Where does his choice to extend come from? “Don’t ask me why. Maybe the four losses were the reason I felt I couldn’t leave“, he said in a video released by Man City. “I felt that the club still wanted me and that we were together“, he added.

With him, Manchester City won fifteen major trophies in eight seasons, including six titles in the very competitive Premier League. In 2023 he achieved a rare treble with the championship, the FA Cup and the Champions League, the first in the club’s history.
