A long winter without a real break – rts.ch

The Ski Jumping World Cup starts this weekend in Lillehammer. A busy season, with the Worlds in Trondheim, the 4 Springboards Tour and the finals in March in Planica.

Gregor Deschwanden will be the leader of the Swiss team in Norway. The Lucernois is currently number 1 ahead of the Vaudois Killian Peier. The next generation is Felix Trunz, a young Saint-Gallois, and there will also be the eternal Simon Ammann who managed to qualify after internal selections.

Gregor Deschwanden is still hoping for his first World Cup victory. He didn’t go far last winter with nine places in the top-10, and especially a 2nd and a 3rd place in Klingenthal and Willingen. Peier, 3rd at the 2019 World Championships, is once again on Deschwanden’s heels, it is said within the team. Trunz and Ammann can be satisfied if they get points in the World Cup.

Power a Kobayashi favorite

The calendar is full until the end of March during the final in Planica, with stages in the United States and Japan. Engelberg will welcome men and women the weekend before Christmas. The world champions will be chosen this winter in Trondheim.

As for the favorites, we of course find Stefan Kraft, overall winner last season, and Ryoyu Kobayashi, winner of the Four Hills Tour. The Slovenian Timi Zajc on the large hill and the Polish Piotr Zyla on the normal hill will, however, have difficulty defending their acquired world title acquired in 2023.
