the CNOSF calls for dignity and moderation of comments during the federal election campaign

The National Olympic and Sports Committee called for compliance with the recommendations established by its Ethics Committee in order to “guarantee the smooth running of federal elections in democratic and peaceful conditions”.

“The CNOSF wishes to reaffirm that candidates and their supporters must adopt dignified and measured behavior (…) the respect for ethics requested on this occasion also implies duties of reserve and courtesy” can we read in this text published this Wednesday at the end of the meeting of the executive office of the sporting body.

This announcement follows the electoral campaign within the French Boxing Federation which saw Sarah Ourahmoune abandon the race for co-president due to racist and sexist attacks, while Estelle Mossely’s list was invalidated by the Commission for monitoring electoral operations of the FFB.

“Certain comments that were made are completely unacceptable. I strongly condemn comments of this nature which attack the dignity of people. I assure full support to those who have been victims.” says David Lappartient, president of the CNOSF, quoted in the press release.

The CNOSF also recalls the importance of “federal ethics committees which, within each of the member sports federations, ensure compliance with ethical and professional principles during the campaign and elections” as well as the role of arbiter of the “conference of conciliators” in the event of litigation.

David Lappartient further specifies that the CNOSF will not fail “to draw conclusions and lessons from this electoral event” evoking the future “Heritage Law” which will have the particular mission of strengthening democratic life in the federations according to the organization.
