On the occasion of disability week, AS Tefana in partnership with the Christian Brotherhood of the Disabled organized the inclusive multi-sport challenge at Atimaono in Papara. Today, no less than 250 people with disabilities from 6 associations took part in the event.
Motivation and courage are not what the 250 para-athletes registered for the Inclusive Multisport Challenge are lacking. On the menu: “bowl (Paralympic sport the equivalent of pétanque adapted for people with disabilities)adapted athletics, wheelchair courses, rowing and to finish in style, water activities”, lists Emilie Journee, event project coordinator at Fenua events.
According to Maimiti Fanaura, president of the Huma de Tahiti iti association, this day is beneficial from every point of view: “on a social level it brings them a lot of things, also on a physical level since we do physical activity but adapted”, she said.
Gisèle, from the Tia mana association in Papara, is a rower. She is very happy to see the members of the other associations again, and she is so happy to have come “to win!”she jokes. A way to link the associative and sporting spirit, and to open up to the outside world.
This is how during this first edition, social links went beyond the borders of French Polynesia since the Caledonian association of the disabled joined the event.
At the local level, for now only associations from the west coast were invited to this first, which will certainly not be the last.
