Tuesday in the NHL | Oilers win 5-2 against Senators

(Ottawa) After being shut out by the Montreal Canadiens 3-0 on Monday night, the Edmonton Oilers bounced back with a convincing 5-2 victory against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

Oilers captain Connor McDavid led the charge with two goals and an assist. He has 14 points, including six goals, in his last six games.

Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard each had a goal and two assists for the Oilers, who won their fourth game in their last six.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the other goal for the Alberta team and Vasily Podkolzin collected two assists. Stuart Skinner stopped 27 shots.

Tim Stützle and Josh Norris responded for the Senators, who lost a third game in a row.

Lightning 3 — Penguins 2

Brayden Point found the back of the net at 3:58 of overtime and the Tampa Bay Lightning came from behind to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Point’s overtime goal was his 10^e of the season.

Point, who missed the previous two weeks with a lower-body injury, began the comeback by scoring at 5:41 of the third period. Anthony Cirelli added his fifth goal this season.

Andrei Vasilevskiy blocked 17 pucks in front of the Lightning goal.

Rickard Rakell scored on a power play while Jesse Puljujarvi opened the scoring for the Penguins.

Rakell ended a nine-game goal drought with his seventh goal of the season.

Sidney Crosby had an assist and passed Joe Sakic at 13^e rank for most assists in NHL history.

Crosby has 1,017 career assists, which ranks him sixth in league history for the most assists on a single team.

Mario Lemieux occupies 12^e rank with 1033 assists.

In the defeat, goalkeeper Tristan Jarry made 32 saves.

Panthers 3 — Jets 6

Mark Scheifele recorded his ninth career hat trick as the Winnipeg Jets beat the Florida Panthers 6-3 on Tuesday and ended a two-game losing streak.

Kyle Connor had a goal and an assist and Morgan Barron scored his first two goals of the season, both shorthanded and into an empty net, within a span of 21 seconds.

Josh Morrissey and Nikolaj Ehlers each added a pair of assists in front of the third sold-out crowd of the season at the Canada Life Centre.

Connor Hellebuyck made 20 saves for Winnipeg (16-3-0), which was blanked 5-0 by the Panthers in Florida last Saturday.

Matthew Tkachuk scored a goal and an assist. AJ Greer and Sam Reinhart also scored for the Panthers (12-6-1). Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 21 of 25 shots.

Wild 4 — Blues 2

Kirill Kaprizov scored two goals in the third period to give the Minnesota Wild a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues.

Jonas Brodin and Ryan Hartman scored the other two goals for the Wild, who earned their seventh victory in their last 10 games.

Filip Gustavsson made 22 saves and the Wild improved to 12-3-3 this season.

Scott Perunovich and Jake Neighbors responded for the Blues, who could count on the return to play of Robert Thomas. The forward had missed the previous 12 games due to a broken right ankle.

Jordan Binnington stopped 24 shots and the Blues have lost six of their last seven games.

Ducks 3 — Blackhawks 2

Alex Killorn had a goal and an assist in the third period to lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Killorn first tied the score with a precise backhand shot at 5:10. He followed it up with a perfect pass to Leo Carlsson, who only had to deflect the puck into the net with 10:22 remaining.

Pavel Mintyukov also scored for the Ducks, who have won four of their last five games.

Trevor Zegras added two assists and goaltender John Gibson blocked 18 pucks.

The Blackhawks suffered a fifth loss in six outings. Connor Bedard set up each of Jason Dickinson’s two goals and goalkeeper Arvid Soderblom made 18 saves.

Dickinson scored the first goal of the game with a one-timer with 2:57 left in the first period. He broke a 1-1 tie with his fourth of the season, at 3:54 of the middle period.
