The commissioner of the National Hockey League (NHL), Gary Bettman, is far from being open to the idea of reducing the penalty imposed on the Ottawa Senators, who will have to give up a first round draft pick following the story Evgenii Dadonov.

The Ottawa organization was sanctioned for having provided the Golden Knights with incorrect information about the partial no-trade clause of the player concerned who was traded to Vegas in July 2021. Subsequently, the Knights attempted to pass him on to the Ducks ‘Anaheim, wrongly believing that the Russian could not oppose it. Dadonov vetoed the transaction and the NHL then punished the Senators: they will have to leave a first-round selection in 2025 or 2026.
Questioned on this subject by the daily Ottawa Citizen, Bettman closed the door to a reversal of the situation.
“I haven’t had this discussion prompting me to comment publicly, but on the face of it, my answer would be no,” he said.
“The penalty imposed on the dealership was not a decision I took lightly,” he also told reporters Tuesday evening. I wasn’t happy to do it, but I felt like I had to.”
Ottawa was ranked 21st overall before hosting the Edmonton Oilers in the evening.
