Gwada Boys beat Cayman Islands 1-0 to qualify for preliminary round

All the lights were green for this return match this Tuesday evening on the lawn of the Roger Zami stadium in Gosier between the Gwada Boys and the Cayman Islands. We expected a prolific match but the Guadeloupeans ultimately won just 1-0 and qualify for the preliminary phase of the Gold Cup scheduled for March 2025.

It was the final step towards the preliminary qualifying round of the 2025 Gold Cup and Gwada Boys won it 1-0, scored in the 86th minute. An anticipated match where the Guadeloupeans were given favorites since the first leg ended in a 6-0 victory.

The Cayman Islands would have had to sign a comeback worthy of that of BARCA against PSG and it is difficult to see how this selection could have achieved this feat in light of the first leg largely lost 6/0 against a Guadeloupean selection which had What’s more, he found his way to the net. Qualification for the preliminary round is therefore acquired since no goal will have been conceded to the Cayman Islands.

This phase will take place in March 2025 and the Guadeloupeans will have a return match to negotiate to qualify for the group stage of the Gold Cup. Which teams will participate in this phase and already the three other teams who are playing these Play In, in this case Cuba who won their ticket for this preliminary phase by beating St Kitts and Névis 4/0 last night. Cuba lost 2/1 in the first leg.

The Gwada Boys and the three other qualifiers from these Play Ins will then meet in March 2025 with the other teams who will join this preliminary phase. Firstly the losers of the ¼ finals of the CONCACAF Nations League. We already know two: Jamaica which lost on Monday against the USA and Costa Rica which lost against Panama last night as well.

All these little people will play their qualification in a round trip match with as a draw a confrontation between the 1is of the last CONCACAF ranking and the last of the qualified teams then the 2th against the penultimate etc…
