Domenico Tedesco is at the heart of a situation that seems increasingly untenable. Many are calling for his departure.
The Red Devils closed their 2024 year with a pitiful performance against Israel, losing with a score of 1-0. This comes a few days after the defeat against Italy. Belgium, in the wake of its failed Euro, completely missed its Nations League campaign.
The pressure is now on the coach Domenico Tedesco. Many observers are calling for his departure and several names are mentioned to replace him.
Former coach of the Red Devils, Aimé Anthuenis gave his opinion on the matter. However, he thinks that replacing Tedesco now would not be a panacea.
“Many would like to see Tedesco fired and I hear a lot of names circulating to replace him. But, let’s remain objective: whoever the coach of Belgium is, he will face the same problems,” he said on VOOSport.
“The biggest concern for the national team today is the defense. Given the men available and the short time we have, it would take a magician to rebuild a solid defense. We must accept that our national team is in a hole and needs time to rebuild,” he continued.
“You just have to see the core that was available for the match in Israel to understand. Today, only Lukaku and De Bruyne remain… when they come and they are not injured. Under Roberto Martinez, who had the great merit of knowing how to manage stars without there being conflicts, there were at least six players of their caliber.”
