Club Brugge pulled off a masterstroke last summer by recruiting Shandre Campbell, a young South African prodigy from SuperSport United. Recommended by Hugo Broos, coach of the South African national team, Campbell is considered one of his country’s future stars.
A promising young talent for the Blauw en Zwart
At just 18 years old, Campbell left SuperSport United to join a European team directly, a first for a player from that club. Already impressive during his debut in South Africa, he quickly established himself as a key player thanks to his technique and versatility, capable of playing both on the wings and in attack.
Difficult, but promising start in Challenger Pro League
The adjustment to Club NXT hasn’t been easy for Campbell. Between the climate, the diet and the intensity of the training, he had to acclimatize to a completely different environment. Despite these obstacles, he was able to shine with 4 goals in just 5 matches, including two superb achievements in the Challenger Pro League, where he only started one match.
A future star for South African football
SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews called Campbell “one of the best young players in the world”. According to him, the young striker could become a key figure in South African football over the next ten years and inspire other local talents to try their luck in Europe.
Club Bruges, a springboard to the biggest championships
Roscoe Krieling, head of training at SuperSport United, sees huge potential in Campbell. He already imagines the striker making the jump to more prestigious leagues like La Liga, the Bundesliga, or even the Premier League after his time at Club Brugge.
Campbell soon in the A core of the Blauw en Zwart?
At 19, Campbell is one of the young talents identified as future members of the Club Brugge first team. Joined by other prospects such as Alejandro Granados, Tobias Lund Jensen, Bi Abdoul Kader Yameogo, and Benjamin Faraas, he could become a major asset for the Blauw en Zwart in the years to come.
