Benin and Sudan meet, Nigeria beaten by Rwanda

Two new teams are added to the list of qualifiers for CAN 2025 in Morocco: Benin and Sudan. These two nations secured their place for the final phase this Monday.

Benin won its ticket for CAN 2025 by obtaining a valuable draw (0-0) against Libya in Tripoli. The Libyans, who absolutely had to win to hope to qualify, increased their attacks, but Beninese goalkeeper Marcel Dandjinou made several decisive saves to keep his team in the match. The Cheetahs thus demonstrated defensive solidity to maintain their advantage and validate their qualification, which they had missed in 2021. Benin thus returned to the final phase after its last participation in 2019.

In group F, Sudan also obtained its ticket for CAN 2025, thanks to a draw against Angola (0-0). This point was enough for the Nile Crocodiles to ensure their qualification, despite Niger’s victory against Ghana (2-1). In the Benin group, Rwanda performed well by beating Nigeria, already qualified and assured of finishing as leader (1-2) at home. However, this victory did not allow the Rwandans to qualify, as Benin grabbed the point from a draw needed to maintain their second place in the group.

In Group F, although Niger beat Ghana in the last seconds of the match (2-1), this victory was not enough to allow them to qualify. Indeed, the draw between Angola and Sudan allowed these two teams to qualify, to the detriment of Niger. Ghana, already eliminated before this meeting, finished last with only 3 points.
