(Philadelphia) National Hockey League (NHL) referee Mitch Dunning had to be carried off on a stretcher after a collision with Colorado Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson on Monday during a game also involving the Flyers from Philadelphia.

Manson was marauding at the Flyers blue line while the majority of players on the ice were competing for the puck behind the home favorites’ net when the collision occurred.
Dunning remained lying on the ice for several minutes, but moved a foot and a hand when Manson came to speak to him.

The accident caused a several-minute interruption while therapists and medical staff tended to Dunning.
Dunning was taken to hospital as a precaution, according to the NHL, but could communicate and move his extremities. All neurological signs were normal.
Dunning played two seasons as a defenseman in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OHL), from 2008 to 2010. He then turned to refereeing and was promoted to the NHL in 2022.
The match continued with a referee and two linesmen.
