CA Brive made it official this Monday the departure of its captain Léo Carbonneau at the end of the season. The talented Brive scrum-half will join racing 92following intense discussions between the two clubs. Léo Carbonneau was in fact committed to the CAB until 2026 but clearly expressed the wish to join the Ile-de-France club after having been requested by it, while the Brive leaders were on the contrary thinking of extending the player until 2028 with a view to a return to the Top 14 from next season .
In its press release, through which a certain bitterness appears, the CAB evokes an agreement “win-win-win”, suggesting that he negotiated significant financial compensation with Racing 92*,* but “deeply regrets the departure of one of its young talents”, having “Understood [son] wish to join the Ile-de-France club”.
However, the CAB wishes to retain its young talents
A native of Pau and son of the former Brive international and coach Philippe Carbonneau, Léo Carbonneau made his first steps at CAB in 2013 at the age of 9 and then evolved within the club through the Espoirs pole before being established within the pro team and taking the captaincy this season. He is also the 2023 junior world champion with the French team.
His departure is therefore a significant loss for CA Briveparticularly in view of the club’s 2030 project which specifically wanted to retain its young talents.
