Sixth in Betclic Elite and seventh in Euroleague, AS Monaco Basket announces this Monday the departure with immediate effect of its coach Sasa Obradovic.
The ax has fallen. Alternating the fair and the bad for several weeks, AS Monaco Basket – double reigning French champion – decided to act, and to thank this Monday its coach, the Serbian Sasa Obradovic, in office since December 2021 after a previous visit to the club.
“AS Monaco Basket has decided to end its collaboration with the coach,” indicates the Rocher club in a press release. “Sasa Obradovic has brought rigor and worked tirelessly since the start of this human adventure. At the end, two French championship titles, a Coupe de France, a Euroleague Final Four, and two qualifications in the play-offs on the European scene. Sasa Obradovic's name is forever inscribed in the history of the Roca Team.”
One defeat too many?
Only seventh in the Euroleague after ten days, and sixth in Betclic Elite after nine days, Monaco lost heavily against Le Mans (86-74) on Sunday at home in the championship. A defeat after which some local supporters demanded the resignation of the coach.
Pending the arrival of a new head coach, the ASM specifies that “the interim will be handled by Manuchar Markoishvili”, until then assistant coach. The latter – barring any surprises – will have to manage a French shock against Asvel in the Euroleague on Thursday.
