After multiple postponements and upheavals, the Champions Trophy between PSG, winner of Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France last season, and AS Monaco, its runner-up, will finally take place in Doha on January 5, 2025. The LFP board of directors announced the news after another exceptional meeting this Monday. The event should bring in around three million euros for the LFP and the clubs.
Consequently, the match of the 16th day of the championship scheduled for the same date between the two teams at the Louis-II stadium has been brought forward to Wednesday December 18. They will meet once again for the return phase of Ligue 1, on February 9 at the Parc des Princes, and will therefore have to face each other three times in the space of two months.
Initially scheduled for August 8 in Beijing, the confrontation was postponed due to administrative delays in China, which was slow to give the necessary authorizations to organize the match. An agreement then seemed to have been reached to play the match in Monaco at the Louis-II stadium on August 28, before undergoing the concomitance and competition of the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games, scheduled at the same time.
Like the last edition, which saw PSG beat Toulouse on January 3 at the Parc des Princes (2-0), the match will take place a few days after the new year, but this time in Doha (Qatar ). Ivory Coast was one of the candidates, but the Qatari guarantees seem to have more convinced the Professional Football League.
