More than three months after her Olympic coronation at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on August 4, Kaylia Nemour continues to shine. At just 17 years old, the Algerian Olympic uneven bars champion made history by giving Algeria and Africa its first gold medal in gymnastics.
Born in France to an Algerian father and a French mother, the young gymnast, who represented Algeria during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has become a source of national pride. Today she juggles between her growing notoriety, her passion for cooking and her new sporting goals.
Champion Kaylia Nemour facing honors and notoriety
After shining in Paris and winning the gold medal on August 4, Kaylia Nemour took a deserved break to recharge her batteries. During a vacation of about a month, she traveled to Tunisia, where she enjoyed the beaches of Djerba, among others. She also settled in Algeria, where she discovered Algiers, thus reconnecting with her Algerian roots.
This break, which allowed him to breathe after a very intense summer, was however not without consequences, according to his trainer Marc Chirilcenco.
« There was a bit of pressure because she had a big cut. She was off for four and a half weeks, which is really a long time “, he explained to the French regional daily La Nouvelle République.
After the summer break in August, Kaylia Nemour resumed “ with difficulty » training in September, according to his coach. “ But we did this quietly, without trying to get back to the best level too quickly. ».
It is also appropriate to look back at the success that the gymnast has experienced in recent months. Her Olympic title literally propelled her into the spotlight.
Its popularity has led to numerous requests. She was received in Algiers by the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune who awarded her the Order of National Merit. She was also invited to the show “ Clique » on Canal+, with Franco-Algerian presenter Mouloud Achour.
Kaylia Nemour often appears on social networks to promote luxury brands, share her days with her fans or show off her know-how in the kitchen, her second passion with gymnastics.
On the international scene, Kaylia has been recognized as a role model in the Arab world. She received, this Wednesday, November 13, the award for best Arab athlete 2024 in Abu Dhabi, during the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women Sports Awards ceremony, “ which is not without posing difficulties for training », remarks his coach. “ But it’s part of the game and the Olympic title », he puts things into perspective.
New objectives for the recovery
Despite her new notoriety, Kaylia Nemour does not lose sight of her sporting goals. For her return to competition, she participated in tournaments in Switzerland which allowed her a smooth recovery.
His trainer reveals on this subject: “ This is why I marked out this stage of tournaments in Switzerland, which are not FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) approved, because they have special formats. »
While putting on her new star costume, Kaylia Nemour discreetly and gradually returned to competition. “ We took it easy, and as the weeks went by before the competition, she got back into shape and was able to arrive quite ready. », Tells his trainer, always to the same media.
The champion thus marked an encouraging comeback with success at the Arthur Gander Memorial, as well as a second place at the Swiss Cup, contested in duo with gymnast Christian Baumann. For his coach, the tournaments played in Switzerland were beneficial to the new star of world gymnastics.
From now on, the Algerian gold medalist is focusing on the Top 12, a team competition, with a first trip to Colomiers on November 30. She also has the world championships in mind in October 2025, and is not particularly thinking about the next 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, a point of view shared by her coach:
« For me, first of all I see an athletic career which involves World Championships, African championships, a national championship… The 2028 Games are rather far away ».
